Search Webster County Court Dockets

A Webster County court docket search starts by choosing the court that heard the matter. West Virginia keeps Circuit Court and Magistrate Court information in separate public systems, while the clerk remains the source for official copies and records that are not online. A Webster County court docket may track filings, orders, hearing dates, or a final result, but access varies by case type. Family, juvenile, sealed, and municipal matters require special care. Search the Webster County court docket with the best known case number or party name, then confirm any date or record with the clerk that maintains it.

Webster County's Two Search Portals

For Circuit Court records, WVPASS is the public route. The Judiciary's launch notice says publicly available documents date to 1999, registration and searching are free, and downloads may carry a per-page and card charge. If the site fails to load, the clerk becomes an important fallback. Keep in mind that coverage from 1999 does not promise every older paper filing or restricted file has been scanned and posted.

MCRSearch serves the Magistrate side. It is free and needs no registration. Enter a first name, last name, or case number. It returns no more than 30 results. A result may list a filed date, charge, disposition, and document list, though the documents themselves are not online. The terms screen warns that results may not be complete or accurate. For available copies, contact the Webster County Magistrate Clerk.

Inside a Webster County Court Docket

A Webster County court docket is a chronological index, often called a register of actions. It can show the case, parties, court, assigned judge, filed items, orders, settings, and outcome. An entry proves only that an event was indexed. It may not show the full filing text. It is never a certified copy. West Virginia Trial Court Rule 11.01 requires an order caption to identify the court, case number, assigned judge, case style, and heading. That makes those fields handy for matching an order to its docket line.

Case NumberThe court-assigned code; preserve its year, type, and sequence exactly.
PartiesThe case style or caption, subject to redaction and access rules.
Docket EntriesDated filings, motions, orders, receipts, and other indexed events.
Hearing SettingsThe listed date or setting type, which must be checked for later changes.
Court & JudgeThe court level and assigned judicial officer.
DispositionThe recorded outcome or status, which may differ from a full judgment.

Webster County Paper and Digital Files

West Virginia's current Circuit and Family Court environment links WV E-File, CourtPLUS, and Vault. CourtPLUS manages cases. Vault stores digital material. Paper the clerk receives may be scanned and linked to it. The Judiciary's current FAQ stresses one point. A paperless workflow does not mean the courthouse holds no paper file. Public court records remain available through the Circuit Clerk, subject to access rules.

CourtOne, announced in October 2025, is a planned unified lower-court case-management system. It is expected to replace separate systems and expand WVPASS. The switch is not yet complete everywhere. So official instructions may name several products, and a future feature may not be active yet; rely on the live Judiciary routing page and the clerk rather than assumptions.

The e-file guides show filing fields. These include county, case type, year, number, and party information. Those screens are for filers, not proof that the public portal offers the same filters.

Courts That Keep Dockets in Webster County

The Circuit Court of Webster County is the general-jurisdiction court of record. It sits in the 17th Judicial Circuit. Family Court sits in a separate three-county circuit. Magistrate Court keeps its own clerk and search system. A town citation may remain with a municipal custodian, while state appellate and federal matters use still different dockets. When in doubt, let the court name on the notice, order, or ticket decide.

Webster County Dockets by the Numbers

Need county context without private names? The West Virginia Judiciary's 2025 Annual Report is the place to look. Its Webster Circuit criminal row reports 33 felonies and 12 other criminal cases, a displayed total of 45. The juvenile table lists 57 abuse or neglect matters. It also lists 12 delinquency matters and 3 status offenses. The total is 72. Those youth records stay restricted even though the aggregate counts are public.

1462025 Magistrate civil total shown
722025 juvenile total, records restricted

Read these numbers as court workload counts. They are not a list of individuals or a full measure of outcomes. Live dashboard data are preliminary and may be revised, so keep the annual-report year and court category attached to every figure.

How to Find Webster County Court Dates

The court posts no official Webster County daily courtroom calendar. To pin down a court date, search the correct case system, read the newest setting or signed order, then call the clerk for the date, time, room, judge, and format, remote or in person. Read the newest setting or signed order. A term day does not promise a set hearing hour. The case notice controls.

Trial Court Rule 2.17 sets Webster County term days on the second Monday in January. May and September get the first Monday. Weather or emergency closure orders can move court work and extend filing deadlines. A later continuance entry or order outranks an older calendar item. For step-by-step help, the full Webster County court-date process explains how to verify a setting and what to do after a missed date.

Webster County Clerk Roles Compared

"County clerk" is a trap phrase in Webster County. The Circuit Clerk, Keith Stout, keeps Circuit and Family filings, orders, judgments, and docket entries. Pam McCourt, the Magistrate Clerk, keeps Magistrate case records. She supplies the papers that MCRSearch never posts. The Webster County Clerk itself handles county commission records, recorded instruments, probate, elections, marriage, and vital records. Trial-court dockets are not part of that job.

Send your request to the right office the first time. Name Webster County and the court level. Give the full case number or style. Include the exact document and any filing or order date. State plain or certified copy, delivery preference, and your contact details. Ask the clerk for the current total on reproduction, certification, postage, and payment. The clerk must let you see qualifying records that exist. The clerk need not create a new report. Reading a whole file over the phone is also outside the duty.

Quick route: Circuit or Family files go to the Circuit Clerk. Magistrate files go to the Magistrate Clerk. Recorded deeds and probate records go to the County Clerk.

Public Access to Webster County Court Dockets

West Virginia law starts from open inspection, though the promise is qualified. The West Virginia Freedom of Information Act covers public-record requests. Court files answer to separate statutes and rules. Family pleadings and their supporting material can be confidential. Juvenile files stay closed. A sealing or expungement order can pull information from public view, including a public website. Redaction and case-specific court orders can also limit what gets released.

Key Rules:

West Virginia Code §51-4-2 opens court records to inspection unless another law provides otherwise.

West Virginia Code §49-5-103 restricts public access to juvenile records.

West Virginia Code §61-11-26 defines sealing to include removal from a public electronic site.

When a Webster County Case Is Missing

A blank result is a lead, not proof that no case exists. Check the court level and the spelling first. MCRSearch caps results at 30. A common name may need a case number or a call to the clerk. WVPASS can fail to load. Its stated coverage does not promise every paper is scanned. Older files may even carry a prior circuit label.

Ask the correct clerk next. The file could be archived, unscanned, indexed under another number, or restricted. Family confidentiality or juvenile law may explain it. So can a sealed indictment or an expungement order. Do not try to slip past the MCRSearch terms gate. Keep the portal, the search date, the court level, and the disclaimer handy. Then the clerk knows what was checked.

Federal cases live elsewhere. A Webster-related federal matter sits in PACER and the Northern District of West Virginia. Elkins is the point where court is held.

Webster County Courthouse Record History

Webster County's record trail weaves through changes in buildings, circuits, and technology. A Judiciary history source says the Romanesque Revival courthouse went up in 1894 after an 1888 fire. An addition was finished in the late 1930s. Older annual reports may name a prior judicial circuit. The current directory puts Webster in Circuit 17 with Braxton, Clay, and Gilmer Counties.

The county contact page lists the courthouse at 2 Court Square. Room and clerk details for court records come from the current Judiciary directory. Working an older file? Keep the source year, court name, and case number together. A changed circuit number never means the county or its historical docket vanished.

The official county directory entry makes the point. The statewide page is the soundest current routing point.

Webster County Docket Copy Costs

Searching and actually getting a document are two different steps. WVPASS searching is free under its launch terms. The launch release put downloads at 25 cents per page plus a nominal card charge. MCRSearch costs nothing. The underlying Magistrate documents, though, come from the local clerk for a nominal statutory fee. West Virginia Code §59-1-11 lists many Circuit Clerk charges. Your final total can hinge on certification, page count, process, and postage.

Webster County Court Dockets by City

Webster County has three incorporated municipalities. They are Webster Springs, legally labeled Addison in some records, Cowen, and Camden-on-Gauley. None of their official pages offers a standalone municipal docket or ticket-payment portal. A citation naming a town or mayor court should start with that town office. A citation naming Webster Magistrate Court belongs in MCRSearch, then confirmed with the Magistrate Clerk. Population figures come from the 2020 Census place table and say nothing about docket volume.
